A thrill for all your senses: Experience 100 years of popular music at the rock’n’popmuseum. Follow along in the tracks of the music, sometimes quiet, sometimes loud – from the first millionfold bestselling “Maiden’s Prayer” all the way to the rap of Eminem. This multimedia standing exhibition presents sounds, songs, photos, videos and exhibits dating all the way from 1877 to the present. While filled with sounds, the exhibition space is far from chaotic, with corridors and washes of sound emerging thanks to technologically refined multimedia presentations. We begin this presentation of the cultural history of music with the chamber music of the turn of the 19th century; stars laugh in photos and videos while information on various genres, musicians and societal events awaits discovery within cabinets and behind touch screens. Exhibit pieces that bedecked the greatest musicians of the German and international pop music scene at the time line this exhibition, from the shirt of Jimi Hendrix to the guitar of Pete Townshend and the gloves of Marlene Dietrich. And what would music be without feeling? Allow yourself to experience all the sounds of this exhibit as you dive into the kaleidoscopic, multifaceted world of music. Try out the e-piano and electric guitar and let yourself be enveloped in the aura of the heartbeat-like trance rhythms as this musical time machine propels you back on an auditory trip back through the years.
